BARRAMUNDI - AUSTRALIA'S GREATEST SPORTING CATCH

Barramundi are a nomadic fish species that wander throughout Awoonga's water spectrum. Moving daily, as well as seasonally, barramundi travel within the confines of the lake in search of favourable conditions such as comfortable temperature zones as well as potential food sources and hunting areas. Being the apex predator in the system, impoundment barramundi can develop some of their own traits that relate to their authorative position, very unlike that of their cousins in the saltwater.

Barramundi can be caught during all 12 months of the year, varying from daylight angling, dawn or dusk, as well as all night fishing sessions. On select days, many barramundi are landed around dawn and dusk, where moving barramundi have a better chance of finding an angler's lure. Guided fishing charters see anglers move around in a purpose designed barra fishing boat and target more stationary fish during daylight hours, where any sized barramundi can be hooked whilst casting, making for an exciting time on the water. Expect the unexpected!

A barramundi's highly tuned sensory system helps create a unique creature with special features that allow them to hunt during the intense portion of daylight, the darkest phase of night, and in clean or dirty water. They have an excellent vibration detection system referred to as a 'lateral line' which is the most significant asset in their hunting repertoire. Acute hearing as well as fantastic vision helps fabricate an extremely alert fish species that is fully aware of its surroundings and anything that is subtly moving within its detection field. They are not a lazy, tired fish; they really are of an elite standard.

Not everyone requires the hands on assistance of a fishing guide, so it is offered to those with interest in the species. It also gives insight for keen anglers prior to a barra fishing charter. Building a better platform for Australian anglers is the priority.
