A lake full of highly energised barramundi from 7kg to 30 odd kg are silently waiting, and vigorously still growing. With up to 4 kilograms of growth per year, the chance of landing record sized barra is certain to continue, with an attached and ever growing worldwide reputation to match its popularity. A 36 kilogram fish was just recently landed. (July 2008) The 13th consecutive stocking year has just passed, and the results of the hard worked stocking campaign is being shown on a multitude of angler's faces who are fortunate enough to visit this majestic location. A very scenic, unique and diverse ecosystem surrounds Lake Awoonga. Countless species of birds and a myriad of flora and fauna species abound in the soothing backdrop of Mount Castle Tower and in the rich, fertile grazing lands of the Boyne Valley.

Lake Awoonga is very easy on the eye, and with a wandering, relaxing mind, one can be quickly jerked back to reality by a commanding strike from its major draw card, the Barramundi. An angler can enjoy the best of both worlds.

Awoonga has become an Australian household name for good reason, with its suitability for both the family and fishing enthusiast. Return trips are common by visitors. Its alluring and charismatic state works its magic on many guests, boldly etching fond memories and strongly drawing families back to this wondrous lake.
