MUD CRAB & ECO TOURS
Enjoy a Harbour Cruise whilst Hunting for an Aussie Legend

Yummy Mud Crabs       Relax and Unwind       Big Angry Claws

On this adventure you actually set crab pots or dillies and actively fish for mud crabs. Discover where to find and catch the iconic 'Muddy' and learn how to tie them up. Maybe take a short walk in the mangroves or on a small island and learn about mud crab lifecycles and the importance of mangrove ecosystems. Your guide has years of commercial mud crabbing experience and knows where to find them daily. Throw a lure while you wait to pass some time, or rest, relax, and soak a fishing line. Enjoy a cold drink and a sandwich while Johnny shows you the unique environment. With mudcrabs selling locally at about $40.00 a kilogram, there is certainly great value for your money on this tour. An interesting charter in a diverse ecosystem amidst "Curtis Island" and "The Narrows". A classic learning experience within a 'Nature versus Industry' war zone.

How Much?
A five hour tour for 2 people- all equipment supplied, lunch, drinks and snacks provided will cost $235.00 per person. Take crabs home for dinner. Mud Crab and Ecosystem Tours run from December to July in all weather conditions. Departure times are based on daily tide times.
What to Bring- a hat, long-sleeved shirt, sunscreen, shoes, insect repellent and a camera.

Contact Johnny for further information.

Did you Know?
Female mudcrabs lay their eggs in the deepwater off the continental shelf; they swim open oceans to get there. Migrations can cover over 200 kilometres each way. Mud crabs shed their shells in order to grow bigger, the new shell expanding inside and pushing the old shell off their backs. Mud crabs can live for extended periods out of the water. They are capable of breathing and gathering oxygen via the gills directly from the atmosphere. Mud crabs can re-grow their appendages if they are lost in a battle. Crabs can reach over 4 kg in weight, but are more common from 1-2 kg.
